Collectors

Sails for Sustenance collector Ainsley Thomson at J22 Worlds in Rochester NYAinsley Thomson collected over 50 sails at the J/22 Nat’l Championship regatta held at Rochester Yacht Club (NY). Ainsley secured delivery of the sails aboard one of the club member’s motor yacht which was being shipped down to Florida for the winter.

Mark Evans who sails a J/22 in Southern NJ served as a storage/collection point. Large collections from DC and Massachussetts were stored by Mark prior to being transported to HQ in Miami.

Patricia Clark collected nearly 100 sails in the Hyannisport, MA area and transported them to a storage point in Levittown, PA.

Sail for Sustenance collectors at Verve Cup Regatta Chicago Yacht ClubAllen Carter, Ted Douglass, and Jeff Gockstetter represented SFS at the 2011 Verve Cup Regatta at Chicago Yacht Club and collected over 20 sails. The Chicago crew is collecting sails until January 2012 when they will be transporting the sails to Miami on their way to attend Key West Race Week.

Mickey LaGarde collected over 20 sails at the 2009 Catalina 22 Nat’l Championship Regatta held at the Fort Walton Beach Yacht Club in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Gene Cochran then transported the sails from the regatta to South Florida where they were processed and sent to Haiti. In addition to the sails collected at the Catalina 22 regatta, Mickey’s promotion of the collection among Catalina fleets across the country also led to other sails being shipped directly SFS HQ from sailors who didn’t attend the regatta.

Dr. Laurie Duncan (of Lightning Fleet 50) collected over 60 sails in the Washington, DC area which were transported by Red Fehrle.
